Did you know that the Yvon Chounard (Founder of Patagonia) and the late Doug Tompkins (Founder of The North Face) have been on a journey to conserve and regenerate vast tracts of land in Patagonia for the last 22 years?
Knowing now that Patagonia will give away their billion dollar business to fight climate change, the film 180 South retraces the journey that Doug & Yvon took in 1968 that planted the seeds for this course of action.
Funnily enough after watching this film the other month we came to learn that their vision is not too dissimilar to ours.
Conservación Patagónica was created as a conservation group in the year 2000 with a mission "to create national parks in Patagonia that save and restore wildlands, wildlife, inspire care for the natural world, and generate healthy economic opportunities for local communities.”
To date they have funded 400,000 acres for regeneration, protection and have a strong kaupapa to open this up to the people of Chile in the process.
The Patagonia National Park Project consists of four major program areas: buying land, restoring biodiversity, building public access, and engaging communities.
We hope this gives you more appreciation that these global business leaders have been thinking, acting and putting their money where their mouth is for a long time prior to this announcement.
Although 400,000 acres is a tall order, we believe we have started to plant some great seeds.

If you’re in Wellington this October we would highly recommend you check out the O Tātou Ngahere conference - Regenerating our landscape with Native Forest.
Hosted by Tāne’s Tree Trust and Pure Advantage this conference is focused on illuminating the why, how and why now behind Native Forest regeneration.
We are certain this conference will drive further awareness and education to the importance of protecting and growing our Native Forests right here in Aotearoa.
Bringing that back to Regenerate NZ and our mission together, we hit another great milestone this September with $40k now in our wallet ready to deploy!
Proving once again that a small group of individuals can build momentum and put their money where their mouth is towards a vision for a better future.
To think 12 months ago we started this journey from a single Linkedin post, to now having weekly contributors and a wallet that grows steadily each week, the momentum is building.
Our current priorities are;
Secure our first forest
Build our contributor base to $2k per month
More to come this month!
Best,
Alex & Jonny
