Kia ora!

In the news.......

Feel free to read the full article here that expands on how.......

  • “New Zealand’s ‘Nationally Determined Contribution’ to COP-26 at home relies on covering our landscapes with short-lived, shallow rooting, highly flammable monocultures of pine trees.”

  • “New Zealand proposes to meet much of the rest of our carbon debt by paying international investors to establish carbon farms in other countries.”

Tautoko to that @ Dame Anne Salmond ✊

Last week we hosted our second ever “IRL” workshop

Jonny and I were fortunate enough to be joined by the legendary Dave Insull and Alexandre Veiga (the brains department) where we had a whiteboard strategy afternoon. Thanks Priority One for hosting us!

We asked Dave & Alex to challenge our assumptions, battle test our business model and our hypothesis to date.

At the end of the session we concluded that the big hairy problem still exists of;

1,000,000 (1 million) hectares of Pine Forest in NZ will be harvested before 2030. This is 58% of our exotic forestry stocks and will result in elevated sensitivity to the environment in regards to; water quality, biodiversity, soil and carbon sequestration.

The main three problems here moving forward for Aotearoa are;

  • Accessibility to forestry as an asset class

  • Sustainability of this land-use in its current form now and if its current form continues into the future

  • Decarbonisation of New Zealand’s economy

We have hatched an outline of a plan for the next 12 months;

  • Apply for Westpac NZ Government Innovation Fund

  • Soft launch the evolution of our offering (updates to come) to further investor classes; wholesale, philanthropy and funds to further battle test our model and gather momentum.

  • Launch a Crowdfunding campaign (or equivalent) for our first forest acquisition by mid year

  • Acquire first forest to put our stake in the ground as Regenerate NZ before Christmas 2022

Recent wins

  • We have collectively just passed the $14,000 mark in the Regenerate NZ wallet! With an average of $890 flowing in per week, we are on track to be at $30k+ in no time.

  • Today we successfully submitted an application to the Westpac NZ Government Innovation Fund for a $150,000 of support to execute on our plan in the next 12 months.

Massive shout out to Leon Willis & David Hall for their visionary leadership in the work they do at Mōhio and their support and review of this application.

We would love to hear your thoughts or any good articles that have come across your radars recently, feel free to reply directly to this email with any heads up or FYI’s any time.

Looking forward to sharing more soon!

Jonny & Alex
